Job Description:

Position Purpose: The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager. Maintains and monitors activity relevant to the general ledger and verifies various business transactions. Analyzes data and reviews financial records while using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Primary Duties:

  • Review financial statements and reconcile accounts on a monthly basis
  • Process/post fixed assets additions and disposals and monthly depreciation
  • Annual reporting such as unclaimed property, capital equipment census, economic census
  • Assist with budget preparation for multiple departments
  • Provide ongoing analysis of actual to budget comparisons
  • Complete routine and non-routine Journal Entries and document support
  • Assisting in audit preparations and compilations of documents
  • Assist/backup of multiple functions for payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Assist with monthly and yearly tax reporting
  • Participate in projects to improve efficiencies
  • Participate in random audits of petty cash and resident's cash
  • Assist in managing financial data and records for multiple HUD homes
  • Assist in HR functions in benefit reconciliations, reviewing weekly feed reports, and other
  • Create employee and payroll reports when needed Qualifications/Skills Knowledge & Abilities: Education: Bachelor's degree in accountancy or finance with evidence of substantial post-graduate education and training. Experience:Two to Three years of accounting experience. Skills Knowledge & Abilities:
    • Ability to administer a systems approach
    • Knowledge of accounts receivable and payable, payroll processing, general bookkeeping procedures and office administration procedures
    • Knowledge of industry best practices, standards, principals, and methods related to sound financial operations of for profit and nonprofit organizations as evidenced by achieving standard professional accreditation or certification.
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and requirements related to financial operations and management.
    • Knowledge of budget, fiscal, and accounting management theories and practices.
    • Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures, including fiscal, personnel, management information, facilities management, reimbursements/ billing/ and other aspects of administration.
    • Knowledge of the organization's programs and services.
    • Ability to analyze, interpret, compile, and report complex statistical and financial data.
    • Ability to research and coalesce information from a variety of disparate sources to apply to any analysis.
    • Ability to develop effective plans of action related to the analysis and interpretation of the data.
