Description: Summary: The Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) is committed to empowering adults with developmental and physical disabilities to be productive, responsible, and participating members of the community by identifying, enhancing, and creating opportunities so all individuals can achieve their highest level of economic and social independence.This is a non-exempt position that provides direct support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The position works as part of a cross functional team. The incumbent is responsible for engaging the clients in creative and meaningful group and one on one art and related activities to enrich their lives, foster communication skills, build self-esteem and appreciate the creative process.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with planning, developing, organizing and implementing an appropriate art and activity program as it relates to the physical, social, cognitive, community, creative and spiritual/ emotional needs of individual clients.
  • Helps with planning and facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly activities to encourage self-awareness, learn coping skills, build fine motor skills and encourage personal and professional development.
  • Observes participants during activities to gauge their enjoyment and obtain their feedback to improve activities.
  • Keeps records regarding event planning resources, participant interest, and other notable information.
  • Reports medical concerns or observations immediately to the Medical Department.
  • Maintains appropriate records of participation in activities as required for Medicaid billing.
  • Places supply orders with the Director of Arts and keep sufficient supplies on hand to perform duties. Works in concert with Creative Arts Manager to meet budget goals.
  • Ensures activity areas are well maintained and supplies are organized, avoids loss, breakage and waste of supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with orientation of new clients.
  • At times, the incumbent may be responsible for safely transporting individuals to and from the center.
  • Maintains formal and informal communication with primary and associate supervisor keeping both aware of activities and concerns with the program; follows chain of command.
  • Works cooperatively with other staff to create an encouraging atmosphere to maximize client development.
  • Provides virtual services when necessary.
  • Provides some degree of personal care when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.Stewardship and Professionalism

      • Ensure effective, positive relationships within and among other department staff, as well as other functional areas within the organization.
      • Develop and ensure favorable working relationships within the agency and with all external WCDC partnersCompliance: This position requires compliance with WCDC's Requirements of Conduct/Work Rules and policies and procedures. Failure to comply, which may include the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements of our written standards, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination.Requirements:Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years old, with a valid driver's license, and approved to transport clients. License may not be Provisionals and have a driving record that reflects responsibility and maturity. Complete all DDA Core Training successfully.Education or/Experience:
        • High School diploma or equivalent required;
        • Creative Arts, Recreational, and Activities background a plus.Physical Demands/Work Environment: Must be able to stand and walk 90% of work time; sit and/or drive 10%. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull 60 pounds; must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and reach. All the requirements are necessary in order to properly supervise and assist individuals with disabilities. Should be able to climb stairs/ladder and have good balance.
