Job Description Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available within a K12 school setting located in the Virginia Beach area. This role primarily supports elementary students in 1:1 assignments across various schools in the district, providing essential communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Interpreters operate in an itinerant capacity, offering flexibility to cover multiple locations depending on student needs. Key Responsibilities: Deliver high-quality sign language interpretation for students, ensuring accurate and clear communication. Provide support in classrooms and other educational settings throughout the district. Adapt to an itinerant role, covering multiple campuses as required. Utilize Visaphonics as a communication method when preferred, though not mandatory. Maintain compliance with all district and state guidelines and policies related to interpreting services. Qualifications and Experience: Current Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III credential. Preferred Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher; candidates with scores above 3.0 or QAS score of 3 will also be considered. Experience interpreting in school settings is advantageous. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students of varying ages. Reliable and flexible to travel between schools within the district. Position Details: Contract duration: Immediate start through June 16, 2026. Work schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 35 hours weekly; part-time itinerant roles may be available. Location: Virginia Beach area. This role requires onsite presence.
