Job Description:
The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) supports the
Physical Therapist by implementing treatment plans, providing
therapy, and documenting patient progress. The LPTA may also adjust
treatments based on the patients needs, following the therapists
plan, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, effective
rehabilitation and support during their recovery process, while
also promoting overall health and wellness.*Responsibilities: **
Carry out treatment plans developed by the physical therapist,
which may include exercises, manual therapy, modalities (e.g.,
heat, cold, ultrasound), and functional activities for both
surgical and non-surgical conditions.* Observe and record patient
progress during therapy sessions, making notes of improvements or
challenges to communicate with the physical therapist for any
necessary adjustments to the treatment plan.* Instruct patients on
exercises, techniques, and activities to improve mobility and
function, and advise on proper use of assistive devices. Provide
guidance on injury prevention and lifestyle changes.* Provide
hands-on care and assist patients with mobility, strengthening
exercises, and performing daily activities to help restore their
independence.* Measures patients' range of motion, body
measurements, and vital signs to assess the effects of treatments
or for patient evaluations.* Maintain accurate records of patient
sessions, including progress notes and updates to treatment plans,
in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility standards.*
Work closely with physical therapists, physicians, and other
healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care and meet the
patients goals.* Ensure therapy equipment is clean,
well-maintained, and ready for use. Help keep therapy areas clean
and organized.* Follow all safety protocols, healthcare
regulations, and ethical standards in providing patient care.
Adhere to HIPAA guidelines to protect patient privacy.* Participate
in ongoing education and training to maintain licensure and stay
up-to-date with the latest physical therapy practices and
advancements.* Adheres to compliant billing practices, ensuring
full compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.* Fits
patients with orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive
devices, including crutches.* Transports patients to and from
treatment areas, assisting with lifting and transferring according
to positioning needs, and securing them onto therapy equipment.*
Participate in the instruction and evaluation of, and work with
Therapy students.* Communicating with supervisors, peers, or
subordinates.* Performing for or working directly with the
public.*Physical Demands:** Frequently standing, walking, and
sitting. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance,
stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. Ability to pull, lift,
carry, and push greater than 50lbs repetitively. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include ability to adjust
focus.*Education and Experience ** Years of Experience: 1+ years of
clinical experience in physical therapy is preferred* Education:
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program*
License, Certificate or Registration: Physical Therapist Assistant
(LPTA) Virginia State License, CPR Certification*Skills:** Active
