Student Loan Repayment, or Relocation Assistance (all with tenure
agreements) available for eligible state new hires. Position
provides psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill
inmates. Functions as a mental health provider to the inmates by
performing initial and ongoing psychiatric assessments; Prescribes
appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates
to improve behaviors; Assists with preparation and modification of
treatment plans and recommend and assign to appropriate programs;
Provides supervision to psychiatric providers at the institution.
Minimum Qualifications Graduate from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an approved psychiatric residency program Licensed to
practice medicine in the state of Virginia; M.D./D.O Extensive
knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and
treat mentally ill inmates Knowledge of professional and ethical
standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the
assigned population Ability to function effectively as a member of
an interdisciplinary treatment team Strong communication skills –
orally and in writing/e-mail Additional Considerations Specialty in
Forensic or Addiction care Board Certification Experience providing
mental health care in a correctional setting Special Instructions
