Commonwealth. About the Job: The Department of Juvenile Justice’s
Bon Air Juvenile Correctional (BAJCC) facility is seeking dedicated
and qualified Rehabilitation Counselors to join our team! The
successful candidate(s) will provide comprehensive counseling
services, plan, implement, monitor rehabilitation services, and
perform case management functions for assigned residents at the
BAJCC. Core responsibilities may include but are not limited to: -
Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling services to
facilitate rehabilitation. Each assigned resident will be involved
in individual counseling services related to offenses, facility
adjustment, behavior, family issues, etc., a minimum of twice per
week, or on an as-needed basis. Attends off-campus trips and
furloughs providing support and structure - Coordinates treatment
services for assigned residents by developing a Comprehensive
Re-Entry Case Plan (CRCP) derived from the treatment needs
identified. Provides case management and
assesses/coordinates/directs each assigned resident’s
rehabilitation and treatment program, coordinates resources for
additional services, and modifies/recommends modification of the
CRCP. - Develops and maintains detailed progress reports for each
assigned resident. - Ensure all case records are documented and
kept up-to-date in accordance with Case Management Guidelines,
ensuring accuracy and compliance. - Serve as a liaison between the
facility and external entities such as courts, families, and
referral sources, in alignment with the Re-entry Manual. Share
relevant information with all departments to support the
rehabilitation and adjustment of residents. Additional Information:
Multiple positions will be filled from this recruitment
announcement. The Rehabilitation Counselor positions are located at
the Bon Air Juvenile Correctional facility which operates 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. The position requires periodic 24-hour
on-call work, including after-hours (5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.) and
weekend duties. Upon hire, all new hires will be required to
complete a three-week mandatory handle-with-care basic skills
training located at the Virginia Public Safety Training Center in
Hanover, Virginia. Minimum Qualifications Working knowledge of the
principles and practices of counseling, casework, and treatment
methods, behavior modification and offender rehabilitation, and
mental and emotional crisis intervention techniques. Demonstrated
ability to implement and monitor treatment programs and monitor
resident progress; to counsel and interact with offenders; to
develop, implement, and follow through on treatment programming;
effective verbal and written communication skills. Additional
