Retail Lending Officer

Job Description:

Under minimal direction, responsible for reviewing, preparing and underwriting consumer loans, purchase mortgages, indirect loans or small business loans. Work requires comprehensive knowledge and understanding of lending. Work involves the ability to effectively communicate with all lending areas of the bank.

Essential Functions

Assists as the policy and procedure expert for all consumer loans.

Maintains loan pipeline and other lending reports.

Coordinates Consumer Lending's participation with ERM.

Recommends changes to consumer lending policies and procedures; lending limits, terms, conditions and rates; and loan officer lending authorities.

Provides assistance to lending officers on all consumer loans; approves consumer loans within established lending authority.

Assists in training consumer lenders; ensures that all lending personnel are knowledgeable in consumer products and services.

Review consumer loan packages for underwriting accuracy and recommend approvals.

Handles employee and officer loan requests.

Accountable for the understanding of and adherence to operational controls, policies, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with bank policies and related laws and regulations

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of lending legal and regulatory standards, and required loan documentation.

Knowledge of consumer lending and residential lending practices.

Knowledge of financial institution lending software (Fiserv preferred)

Intermediate level knowledge of MS Office with the ability to learn other job specific software applications

Skill in analyzing situations and applying critical thinking in order to resolve problems and decide on courses of action.

Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to distill and convey information in a compelling manner.

Skill in adopting technological advancements and facilitating into current and future responsibilities.

Ability to anticipate, monitor, and meet the needs of customers (internal and external) and respond in an appropriate manner.

Ability to build and maintain effective and constructive working relationships, partnerships or networks of contacts with people who are, or might someday be, instrumental in achieving work-related goals.

Ability to interpret policies and procedures, loan contracts with an understanding of credit reports, financial statements and loan documentation along with strong analytical skills.

Ability to express oneself clearly in conversations and interactions with others

Ability to express oneself clearly in business writing

Ability to make sound transactional decisions to ensure policies and directives are met.

Ability to prioritize and make timely decisions in a fast-paced production environment.

Ability to work independently and take ownership of personal performance and development.

Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and have positive relationships with customers (internal and external).

Possesses the drive to work towards a standard of excellence.

Obtain/maintain NMLS certification or keep current

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business, finance or accounting; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

A minimum of three years' experience in Lending (financial institution preferred).

Previous experience in a Retail Lending Officer or similar role preferred.
