JOB DESCRIPTION
IDENTIFICATION
Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

SUMMARY
General Description: Under the direction of the CHRO, the Human
Resource Generalist will assist in running the day-to-day
operations of the Human Resources (HR) department, including hiring
and interviewing staff, benefits overview, and leave, and enforcing
company policies and practices.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Manages, administers, and explains Virginia Commercial Space Flight
Authority (VCSFA) benefit and disability coverage for all
employees.
Explains VCSFA benefit options and cost of available plans. Also
ensures benefit selections are updated in our Human Resources
Information System (HRIS) in a timely manner.
Serves as the primary point of contact for short-term and long-term
disability program. Coordinates return to work status for employees
with VCSFA supervisors and department heads
Ensures separating employees are promptly terminated in our HRIS to
ensure timely notification of COBRA benefits.
Assist in administering and explaining the Family Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) according to
statute and internal policies and procedures.
Assist in coordinate injury reports and related forms for workers'
compensation claims according to internal policy and
procedures.
Annually assess VCSFA leadership to training professional
development needs.
Explores effective and cost-efficient options to best meet the
training needs of managers and employees.
Develops annual training course curriculum for VCSFA.
Assist with the hiring process including but not limited to posting
internal/external job requisitions, interviewing, conducting
background and reference checks, negotiating salary offers, and
issuing offer letters and compensation portfolios.
Assist with the administration of company-wide human resources
policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with company
objectives and federal and state legal requirements.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
General Education
College: Bachelor's degree desired Major: Human Resources,
Business, or related discipline
Job-Related Experience: An equivalent combination of training and
experience may substitute for a degree.
Certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)?certification
is preferred.
Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary while operating
a vehicle while on agency business.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of human resources laws, rules, and
regulations, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of leave
and disability programs.
Considerable knowledge of human resource laws, rules, regulations
to include: FLSA and overtime rules and regulations.
Working knowledge of COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and other employee related
programs.
Considerable knowledge of personal computers and Human Resource
Information Systems individual systems.
Knowledgeable of SharePoint preferred.
Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication skills within all levels
of the organization.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and highly organized
with attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and/or related programs, such as
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to address multiple projects simultaneously
within established timeframes.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, establish facts and draw
valid conclusions, e.g. compute benefit and/or leave
calculations.
Ability to work in a high-volume and fast paced environment.
Self-disciplined.
Physical Demands: Work is light requiring lifting of computer
equipment and involves typical office behaviors. While performing
the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit;
use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee
is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee
is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop,
kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is performed in a typical office
setting.
