CACI is seeking an experienced senior-level developer to define and lead how our team leverages modern AI tools in software development, exhibiting strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as a record of accomplishment in successful project execution. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and optimizing an AI-assisted development environment , not building AI products. You will be responsible for standards, tooling, and AI-assisted development workflows that enable yourself and a small engineering team to effectively and securely use foundational models via Amazon Bedrock to their fullest extent . You will act as both a technical authority and individual contributor , shaping how AI is used across development, QA, and technical writing workflows. Working for DHA and Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic for a Navy Medicine Online Project. The project is within the Defense Health Readiness Engineering portfolio. Responsibilities AI-Assisted Development Environment Design and evolve AI-enabled development workflows, including: VS Code-based tooling (e.g., Roo Code, Claude Code, Cursor) MCP servers and tool integrations Structured, document-first approaches to context generation Prototype and evaluate approaches to context construction, summarization, and compression Define and enforce standards for: Repository structure and organization for AI-assisted development Prompt patterns and context construction strategies Token usage, context window management, and model parameter tuning Evaluate and integrate AI tools: Determine which tools, skills are appropriate, secure, and effective Extend or build custom MCP tools where needed Identify and mitigate failure modes such as hallucination, instruction drift, context confusion, and context stuffing Hands-On Software Development Contribute as a core engineer on modernization efforts Apply AI-assisted workflows in real production development Prototype and validate new approaches to improving development efficiency AI Strategy & Technical Leadership Serve as a technical authority on AI-enabled development practices Recommend and validate approaches, gauging accuracy Explore advanced techniques (e.g., embeddings, indexing, vector databases) and implement where applicable. Training & Enablement Train other team members on AI tools and workflows Develop clear documentation and usage guidelines Provide hands-on support, workshops, and 1:1 guidance when needed Continuous Improvement Stay current with advancements in foundational models and AI coding tools Continuously refine workflows, tooling, and standards based on real-world usage Qualifications Required Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain a secret clearance 5 years of professional software engineering experience Strong experience with modern development practices Experience working within AWS environments, preferably Amazon Bedrock . Bonus if within the GovCloud. Knowledge of DevSecOps, agile development and the context engineering lifecycle Demonstrated ability to apply AI tools to real software development workflows and improve developer productivity through practical AI usage. Strong understanding of: Token usage management and context window limitations Prompt design and structured AI interactions Tradeoffs in model behavior and outputs Strong communication skills Desired Experience with AI coding tools such as: Claude Code, Claude CoWork, Cursor, Roo Code, or similar Experience designing AI-assisted development environments or workflows Familiarity with: LiteLLM or similar proxy layers MCP server patterns or tool-based AI systems Embeddings, indexing, or vector databases Context Architecture & Design Project structure best practices for AI Projects (Skills, MD files, Agents, etc.) Candidate Expectations Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate how they use AI tools in real development workflows , including examples of: AI-assisted coding approaches Context construction strategies Tooling and project structure setups they have implemented What This Role Is Not Not a machine learning or model development role Not focused on building customer-facing AI features or chatbots Not responsible for large-scale MLOps or high-availability AI infrastructure Education and Experience: Education: University degree (BA/BS) or 5 years of experience. Experience: 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with professional experience working with AI-powered development tools. Experience with at least one major LLM API platform: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Cohere, or equivalent. Familiarity with prompt engineering techniques: chain-of-thought, few-shot prompting, structured output, tool/function calling. - What You Can Expect: A culture of integrity. Pay Range : There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
