The work will support TEAMS 3 projects at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA to support various research activities in autonomous systems within aerospace engineering applications.Job DescriptionAMA is looking for a motivated and talented engineer with a diverse background to join our team supporting ongoing NASA research efforts in autonomous systems to meet the challenges in aeronautics and space exploration. AMA develops and maintains numerous software architectures and simulation systems to investigate novel approaches to the use of autonomy. AMA also supports the integration of these systems with numerous hardware systems including rovers, UAVs and robotic systems, to provide environments for research, development, and testing. AMA is looking for aerospace engineering candidates who possess a good understanding of autonomous systems, underlying technologies and techniques, and a broad software skillset to support these efforts. Candidates should be self-starters and innovative thinkers capable of working closely within a small diverse team.Typical Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate closely with the team and customer to assist in the design, development and testing of algorithms related to autonomous systems operations
  • Collaborate with software and hardware teams to support integration of autonomous solutions into existing software and hardware systems
  • Provide aerospace engineering knowledge to software and hardware teams in support of future aeronautics and space operations planning
  • Present technical solution design concepts and demonstrations to the team, customers, and outside collaborators
  • Support documentation and presentation developmentRequirements
    • A BS degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field plus at least 3 years post-degree experience or an MS degree focused in applicable research
    • Background in autonomous systems using machine learning, neural networks, and other AI technologies/techniques
    • Software skills in relevant languages and frameworks including C, C++, and Python
    • Comfortable with software and hardware integration including sensors, vision systems, and single board computers
    • Familiarity with software development utilities including Git, Jenkins, Jira a plus
    • Familiarity with simulation systems and frameworks such as Unity, ROS, Matlab and Simulink are a plus
    • Familiarity with network communication protocols, Multi-cast, TCP, UDP a plus
    • Strong oral and written communication skills; will be required to highlight work.The work is ITAR controlled - therefore, only US citizens or US permanent residents can be considered.This position requires customer site access.
