We have an immediate opening in our Arlington, VA office for an Applied Scientist in the Image Processing & Computer Vision group reporting to the Senior Scientist. This is an exempt non-supervisory full-time position. Primary Responsibilities: - Develops technical workflows for image processing, detection, identification, and tracking. - Adapts existing libraries and implements new algorithms to process and visualize imagery data - Evaluates algorithm performance, identifies and prototypes candidate improvements as needed. - Prioritizes multiple tasks and contributes to completion of technical milestones on schedule. - Prepares presentation-worthy graphics and technical briefings, with an emphasis on high-quality visualization and technical writing. - Additional duties as assigned Required Qualifications & Experience: - U.S. Citizenship required - Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility - BS, MS or Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical field. - Previous development of analysis tools for real or simulated sensors. - Proficient in Python and common numerical and image processing packages - Development experience in software environments with multiple dependencies and complex build systems. - Ability to learn and apply programming tools and software packages as needed. - Intellectual curiosity and desire for continuous learning - Skilled and innovative problem solver - Comfortable adapting to a wide variety of roles to support different types of technical projects - Comfortable interfacing with a variety of co-workers and customers - Confident approaching senior scientists for guidance and implementing their technical recommendations. - Independently performs research (literature searches, code projects) to fill in knowledge gaps. - Proficient in the use of standard Office software Preferred Qualifications & Experience: Technical experience or expertise in one or more of the following topics is highly desirable: - Additional computing languages, software engineering practices and tools (C/C++, Test Driven Development, CI/CD) - Machine learning / deep learning / convolutional neural networks - Detection, tracking and estimation algorithms - Computer vision, 3D modeling and visualization - GUI development - Satellite or airborne image processing - Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Processing - Cloud computing / DevOps and networking tools (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) - GPU acceleration of image processing algorithms (CUDA) - Proposal development and/or project management experience.
