Job Description:
Research Scientist - Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization
for Advanced Air Vehicles
The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), located in Hampton,
Virginia, is seeking candidates for a Research Scientist position
to conduct projects in the area of comprehensive modeling and
multidisciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) for advanced air
vehicle configurations. The focus of this research is on
high-fidelity analysis and optimization of large-scale rotary-wing
vehicles that require interactions of many disciplines such as
multi-body dynamics, aerodynamics, acoustics, structural dynamics,
flight mechanics, etc. The successful candidate is expected to
develop, implement, and demonstrate new accurate and efficient
approaches to comprehensive structural and multi-body dynamics
analysis and optimization of rotary-wing configurations and
collaborate within a multidisciplinary research team in a
project-driven environment.
The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary
team of researchers at NIA, NASA and in academia to advance the
concepts of interest. Results of this work are expected to be
published in both conference proceedings and journal papers. This
position is based in Hampton, VA, but has the potential for
long-term teleworking.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and demonstrate novel and efficient models
for structural and multi-body dynamics analysis of large-scale
rotary-wing configurations
* Develop, implement, and demonstrate novel and efficient
approaches for sensitivity analysis of structural and multi-body
dynamics models of large-scale rotary-wing configurations
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team on development,
implementation, and demonstration of a high-fidelity MDAO tool for
large-scale rotary-wing configurations
Requirements:
* PhD in engineering, applied mathematics, computer science,
physics, or equivalent
* 1 year of post-graduate experience in structural analysis and
multi-body dynamics
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and interact in a
multidisciplinary team environment
* Ability to quickly learn, analyze, and implement new concepts
Desired Skills:
* Previous experience working with DYMORE
* Demonstrated experience with large-scale code development
* Familiarity with high performance computing requirements
* Creativity, analytical, and communication skills
Interested candidates should apply via NIA's career opportunities
site located at www.nianet.org under the 'About NIA' tab. Please
