Duties This hourly/wage position is not entitled to the State--s
benefits package. Positions filled through this recruitment are
limited to an average of 29 hours per week and 1,500 hours in a
12-month period.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads
District is seeking a qualified Highway Maintenance Laborers to
fill vacancies located within in the Accomac Residency.
Multiple positions may be filled from this vacancy at the Accomac,
Temperanceville, and Eastville AHQ--s.
The position will assist with repairs and maintenance of State
roadways and their surrounding right of ways. Duties include
operation of hand and power tools and performance of minor repairs
and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools. Performs manual
labor, practices safety at all times, and works as part of a team
as well as independently.
This position is designated as essential to emergency operations
and may be required to work outside of normal work hours, on
weekends and holidays during emergency situations which may include
but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and
emergency operations to ensure the safety of the traveling
public.

apply. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of highway maintenance
equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power
tools.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Skill in the operation and
maintenance of light and medium equipment used for highway
maintenance and repair. Ability to read and to follow oral and
written instructions.
Valid driver--s license required. Preferred Qualifications: High
school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training
may substitute for education.
Experience in equipment operation and performing preventative
maintenance.
Experience performing roadway maintenance and/or construction
activities.
Experience with emergency operations to include snow removal,
storms, and accident clean-up. Special Instructions: You will be
