Job Description:
Lentech is seeking an Electrical/Electronics Engineer,
Engineering Physicist, or Physicist (applied) with design,
development, and/or application experience with lasers and/or LIDAR
instruments. The incumbent will support optical design, laser
integration, including optical cavities, telescopes, beam alignment
and routing, and integration for NASA Langley Research Center
science instruments airborne and/or space projects. The candidate
will design, test and integrate laser and optical components and
circuits to meet instrument and project requirements. The
responsibilities include: Design and implement airborne and space
based remote sensing LIDAR systems, with a focus on wind-LIDAR
instruments.Design of optical subsystems, including optical
cavities, telescopes, high-precision angular measurement systems,
beam routing optics, and transmitter health and monitoring
systems.Design, assemble and optimize breadboard and preliminary
instrument prototypes for verification of in-house solid-state
laser performance and operations.Develop and implement test
procedures to evaluate subsystem performance. Work with
multi-disciplinary team (software, hardware, and optical engineers)
to design and perform sub-system tests to isolate problems, correct
and improve system performance.Integration of flight instruments on
aircraft such as P3, KingAir, and DC8. Develops procedures for
integration and operation in the particular aircraft.Provide
technical and analytical support to periodic and recurring meetings
such as technical interchanges, design reviews, parts control
board, safety and mission assurance, and program reviews.Periodic
travel may be required to other NASA centers and instrument and
instrument subsystem contractor facilities primarily in the USA;
however, some international travel may be required. Strong
analytical ability to find and gather facts with attention to
details, and ability to design laser optical systems to meet system
requirements.Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in
electrical/electronic engineering, engineering, physics, or physics
with 5 years of relevant design, development, integration and
testing experience; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. 3-5 years experience with any structured
programming/scripting language, preferably Python, MatLab or
Solidworks.Design and implementation experience (optical layout,
component selection, procurement, integration and testing)Strong
analytical skills with attention to details that entail
requirements review and analysis to support scientific instrument
performance.Strong interpersonal skills such as oral and written
communications, technical writing and presentation
skillsSelf-starter with ability to solve problems, address
roadblocks to technical issues, and work cooperatively in a team
environment.Knowledge & use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
is required,Desired Qualifications:Experience with MIL-STD and/or
NASA requirements is desired.Team leadership skills.Analytical
